Velocity 99 Girls Help Out at Pioneer Home.
Cook Inlet’s 99 Girls took a break from their holiday celebrations to spread some good cheer and help members of the Pioneer Home ring in the Christmas season. Coaches Andrew Deitrich and Daniel O’Connell organized a service project for the entire 99 Girls team, allowing them to spend some quality time together while doing important community service work for the Pioneer Home. The girls gathered at noon on December 18th and broke into three different groups. Each group headed to a different section of the Pioneer Home for a different party. They decorated tables, served guests food, ran errands, and most importantly spread good cheer and bright smiles to all of the residents and family members in attendance.
Needless to say, the girls were tired after four hours on their feet, helping set up, run and clean up after each of the parties. They were worn out, thrilled from their encounters with people who appreciated their smiles, and even laden down with gifts from some of the more generous people at the party. But their day didn’t end there. The girls went home for a brief break, then headed back to Mears for their final Futsal match of the season. All in all, it was a perfect day. Spending time with teammates, helping others, and ending the day with a soccer match – there couldn’t be a better way to ring in the holidays.
Thanks to the Pioneer Home for letting our girls come and help, and to the coaches and parents for organizing and supervising this very special project. To a person, the girls enjoyed their experience so much, they want to return next year and help out again! That’s a New Year’s Resolution we can keep.
