CISC Velocity 98B Success at the Las Vegas Mayor’s Cup

The CISC Velocity Blue 97G, 98B, and 00G teams traveled to Las Vegas from October 20 to 24 to participate in the 2010 Las Vegas Mayor’s Cup.  All of the teams represented our club very well by playing against top level talent from throughout the west.

The 98B team (playing at the U13 level) ended up winning their bracket and played against a strong team called the Pajaro Valley Tigres (from the Monterrey, California area) in the Championship of the Rotary Division.  The Tigres had swept through their bracket beating teams by a combined score of 15 to 1.  They were flying high and filled with confidence entering the game; certainly a team from Anchorage would provide little resistance to them claiming the championship.  But the Velocity 98B battled hard, took a early lead and then came from behind to defeat the Cal-North team 3 to 2 by scoring the winner only two minutes from full time.

The 98B played five games while in Las Vegas, with the following results:

  • 5 games played; 4 decided by one goal
  • 4 wins and 1 loss
  • 8 goals scored (3 on set pieces or corners)
  • 3 goals conceded (1 on a corner)
  • two yellow cards

no reds

Said coach Stewart Osgood “The team played hard, showed determination and intelligence in the back, were opportunistic going forward, made some luck for ourselves, and demonstrated a consistency of performance that is essential for Alaska teams playing Outside.  This is a great group of kids and I foresee tremendous things for them in the coming years, both on and off the pitch.

All in all, a very nice accounting for Cook Inlet Soccer Club.
